Burney, Charles
English composer and music historian (1726-1814) Fascinating newspaper clipping from a 1785 London newspaper, noting that “On Sunday night Dr. Burney’s house, in St. Martin’s street…was broke open, and two bureaus plundered of cash and Bank-notes to the amount of near 300L.” Mounted on an acid free album page, this is a rare glimpse into the everyday life of the most important English music historian of the Eighteenth Century

Sullivan, Arthur
English composer [1842-1900]. Ivanhoe, a Romantic Opera. 4½ x 7¼ program for the 1891 premiere run of Sullivan's only grand opera, with charming chromolithograph illustration by Alice Havers. This beautiful cover, printed on heavy stock, and the program and cast list on the verso have been detached from the third and fourth pages of the original program (not extant), and would have been provided to customers of the highest priced seats. One corner is creased, and there is minor soiling on the illustrated cover page, but this is a lovely and rare artifact of the prestigious premiere of Sullivan's now neglected masterpiece.
