English composer and music historian (1726-1814) Fascinating newspaper clipping from a 1785 London newspaper, noting that “On Sunday night Dr. Burney’s house, in St. Martin’s street…was broke open, and two bureaus plundered of cash and Bank-notes to the amount of near 300L.” Mounted on an acid free album page, this is a rare glimpse into the everyday life of the most important English music historian of the Eighteenth Century

Czech composer and pianist (1760-1812). Third person ALS in French, September 19, 1810, 1p, requesting the delivery of a manuscript to Mr. Cianchettini (his publisher and brother-in-law) for an air varié (one of his late keyboard pieces). On an 8x7 page, in fine condition except for one minor tear along the left edge affecting three words. Early and rare example of this pre-Romantic keyboard genius.

Russian composer [1891-1953]. Autograph musical quotation signed and dated 1938. 2 bars from the ballet Romeo and Juliet, on a 3˝ x 5 autograph album card, alongside a mounted 2x3 half-tone photo of Prokofieff at the keyboard. The card has been folded along the upper left corner, scarcely affecting the autograph. This is a very desirable example dating to the time of the ballet's premiere.

Stravinsky, Igor
Stravinsky in the theatre, edited with an Introduction by Minna Lederman. New York, Pellegrini & Cudahy, 1949. 4to, 220pp, illustrated. A collection of essays by 24 colleagues, including Cocteau, Balanchine, Ansermet, Copland, Monteux, Milhaud, Bernstein and Schuman, and discussions by Stravinsky himself regarding the influence of his work on theater, dance and modern music. The title page is signed by STRAVINSKY and dated January 1962, on the occasion of a concert with the Opera Society of Washington (pages of the original program are tucked into the book). The essay by conductor Robert Craft (p.85) has been signed by ROBERT CRAFT, dated January 22, 1962 and dedicated to the book's owner, noted harpist Sylvia Meyer, the first female member of the National Symphony Orchestra from 1933-1968. A marvelous association of legendary musicians, the book is in excellent condition, with original dust jacket, slightly chipped along the edges and spine.

A funny, congratulatory poem for friends, by the writer and composer of "The Music Man", "The Unsinkable Molly Brown" and other beloved standards of the American Musical.
